Solar thermal- How it works...

The basic principles of solar thermal can be explained quickly and simply:

Solar Thermal panels are designed to be directed towards the suns natural light, this light energy is absorbed in to the fluid within the panels. This heated fluid is then pumped from the panels through pipework until it is exchanged in to your hot water cylinder using a coil within the cylinder.

The cooled fluid is then pumped back to the panel and reheated and the process starts again.

Other than the small amount of electricity used to power the pump and controller, there is next to no energy required to run solar thermal other than the sun.

You may be eligible for either the Governments "Green Homes Grant" or the "RHI" and you, may well be eligible for both. We can advise on this and assist you with any application.

In most cases it would be expected that your hot water cylinder needs changing but in some cases it may be possible to use an existing cylinder or add a solar coil.

Yes, your solar thermal system must be serviced annually by a qualified professional and can be a stipulation of any Government grant received.

Yes in most cases a system can be designed to utilise non south facing roofs but this is case by case.
